We are currently seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior Composite Design Engineer to join our Suspension, Steering and Brakes group in our Engineering office. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking and guiding a range of designs from initial concepts through to prototype production as well as supporting the Head of Department and Principal Engineer to deliver performance-enhancing technology.
As a Senior Composite Design Engineer, you will:
- Layout of design schemes which respect regulatory and structural requirements, packaging, aerodynamics and composite manufacturing techniques.
- Detailing of parts and assemblies.
- Calculation work and production of system documentation.
- Conduct and contribute to design reviews at individual through to whole engineering team level.
- Adopt end-to-end ownership for projects incorporating manufacture, build, testing and racing, including fault analysis and resolution requiring close collaboration with the wider team.
- Support checking responsibility for detailed drawings, including design review against specification and previous designs.
- Drive continuous improvement and promote autonomous creativity to unlock performance.
- Engage with development of junior members of the team, mentoring and instilling best practice and a mindset of continuous improvement.
Our ideal candidate is someone who has:
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification supported by significant design experience in motorsport, aerospace or a related field, with expertise in running end-to-end programs.
- An understanding of composites stress analysis for preliminary sizing.
- Strong CAD skills, ideally with experience of NX, however training will be provided for conversion from other CAD systems.
- The ability to own and lead projects in their area of expertise.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, along with good attention to detail.
- Great organisational skills and be well organised with the ability to clearly prioritise tasks to agreed deadlines.
- A willingness to mentor less experienced engineers within the team.
- Embrace the challenge of contributing to Williams’ objective to be best in class.
- A friendly, collaborative outlook, with good communication and organisation skills will help the successful candidate integrate well into our design team.
