The Office for Students is the independent regulator for higher education in England. As a result of increased funding we are growing our Regulation directorate. The team dedicated to protecting students’ interests and improving access, quality, and standards.
Whether you’re an experienced regulator or looking for a fresh challenge in public service, this could be the opportunity for you.
We’re currently recruiting across multiple levels:
- Regulation Officer (Entry-level, full training provided – perfect for those with transferable skills from legal, policy, research, teaching or compliance backgrounds)
- Regulation Manager (Ideal for those with prior policy, regulatory, or higher education experience)
- Head of Regulatory Portfolio (A strategic leadership role driving evidence-based policy and regulatory development)
What you’ll do:
- Assess new higher education providers for registration and degree awarding powers
- Monitor compliance and support improvement
- Contribute to initiatives like Uni Connect and access & participation plans
- Investigate concerns and support enforcement activity
- Develop policy and improve regulatory systems
Who we’re looking for:
We’re especially keen to hear from candidates with experience in:
- Regulatory, legal, policy or quality assurance roles
- Higher or further education including Teaching
- Audit, compliance or investigations
- Consumer protection or counter-fraud
- Data analysis or managing complex casework
Who have:
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- An interest in public policy or regulation
- A commitment to fairness, integrity, and student outcomes
