Department of Education, Practice & Society – Lecturer in Higher Education Studies
The Department of Education, Practice & Society has relaunched the MA in Higher Education Studies. This interdisciplinary programme attracts students from around the world. We are seeking a Lecturer with expertise in Higher Education Studies to contribute to teaching, research, and scholarship.
The successful candidate will join a diverse department with interests in comparative education, history, sociology, economics of education, or policy studies. Responsibilities include curriculum development, pastoral support, teaching, learning, and assessment on the MA programme. Contributions to scholarship in areas such as international education, governance, trans-national education, student mobility, or higher education policy are expected.
In addition, the role involves engaging in research and enterprise activities, including bids for funded research. Informal inquiries about research and REF can be directed to Professor Moses Oketch, and inquiries about teaching can be directed to Dr Holly Smith.
About you
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Higher Education Studies or a related field, with successful teaching experience at higher education level and experience working with diverse student backgrounds. If you lack an HE teaching qualification or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, you should be willing to obtain one.
You should be prepared to supervise Master’s dissertations and have knowledge of research methods such as secondary data analysis, document analysis, interviews, surveys, case studies, and systematic synthesis.
