The Role
To support the Lloyd’s General Counsel and to provide legal and regulatory advice and support to the Lloyd’s senior management, to Lloyd’s committees, to a range of internal departments within Lloyd’s and to Lloyd’s subsidiaries and overseas offices, including market oversight.
Principal Accountabilities
- Leading and being responsible for providing expert and strategic legal advice on a wide range of legal matters related to strategic initiatives and other transactional and regulatory matters, identify issues of highest risk and propose/drive solutions to address them and advise on and influence strategic decision making where appropriate.
- Leading and being responsible for providing accurate, pragmatic and timely risk-based legal advice on legal issues in relation to Lloyd’s membership, finance (including capital, investment management, tax), regulatory and compliance matters (UK and international).
- Leading and being responsible for drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on complex commercial agreements, including but not limited to, services agreements, consultancy contracts, engagement letters, terms and conditions, software licences, maintenance agreements, data transfer agreements, outsourcing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and providing accurate, pragmatic and timely risk-based legal advice on legal issues in relation to such commercial contracts, and on IT, intellectual property (IP) and data protection matters.
- Identify, monitor and assess legal risks associated with Lloyd’s operations and actively provides proactive and innovative solutions to mitigate those risks.
- Drafts with precision to avoid adverse consequences and exercises good judgment in negotiation of contracts and giving advice.
- Uses knowledge and pragmatism to identify when to involve other business areas.
- Is open to change and adapts and responds positively to it and is willing to challenge and to seek out new opportunities.
- Effectively manages and communicates with clients/stakeholders on individual workstreams and projects.
- Communicates, explains and presents complex legal or business information and consequences of decisions in a simple and accessible way.
- Effectively plans and prioritises workloads.
- Effectively communicates progress of ongoing matters at regular intervals to clients and to the respective Head and, as appropriate, the General Counsel.
- Instruct and manage outside firms of solicitors and other external advisers where appropriate.
