We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Hillingdon to assist with the appointment of a Senior Payroll Officer, on a 2-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £19.74 - £26.04 per hour

Hours Per Week: 21.00

Summary: As a key member of the specialist payroll team, the Senior Payroll Officer plays a vital role in delivering a high-quality payroll service across the London Borough of Hillingdon. This role ensures accurate and timely salary payments in compliance with statutory regulations and council policies. The post holder will handle complex payroll queries, support system developments, and contribute to ongoing service improvements. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional with a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ambition to grow in a dynamic local authority setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate monthly payroll operations, including BACS transmission, payslips, and costing tasks.
  • Manage complex payroll queries escalated from the HR Support Team or within Payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal pay and reward policies.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including HMRC, auditors, pension providers, and accountancy teams.
  • Operate salary sacrifice schemes such as childcare and cycle-to-work programs.
  • Produce payroll-related management information and reports using Business Objects.

Requirements:

  • CIPP or CIPD qualification
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Significant experience in transactional payroll processing
  • Handling complex payroll queries
  • Ensuring timely and accurate payroll delivery.
