You will join the Convert And Scale track, a set of teams focused on the scalability of DeepL's business model. The focus is on enabling customers to manage their accounts and subscriptions from a single licence to large enterprises with thousands of users. This requires maintaining a software landscape that owns the identity and access management, subscriptions & billing, conversion, retention optimisation and reconciliation with our financial systems. We support this infrastructure for current and future use cases for our existing products, with the aim of anticipating and accelerating the company's revenue growth expectations through technology.

Based in our London hub, the Senior Staff Engineer will own and drive technical decisions to ensure the scalability, reliability, availability and security of our internal systems and enterprise revenue platforms within Convert And Scale to build, commission and deploy the technology and data infrastructure and architecture to meet business revenue growth objectives. By defining a path to implementation, this role should ensure that product decisions and planning are carried out in a scalable manner. The Senior Staff Engineer will challenge implementation, ensure execution alongside management and establish a collaborative path with other tracks in the engineering organisation.
Your Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the overall architecture of our business systems across teams, system owners and engineers.
- Provide guidance on the architecture and its components through the commissioning and decommissioning of all services involved.
- Ownership of revenue data management: Data architecture, governance, data protection, etc.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership on projects with a size and scope of +7 teams.
- Helping teams plan and estimate activities.
- Supporting and challenging a realistic roadmap with team leads and product managers, challenging timelines and providing predictability of deliverables to the business.
- Mentor, develop and coach other senior software engineers, engineering managers and business leaders.
Qualities we look for:
- Significant experience in one or more of the following domains: Identity & Access Management, Fraud prevention, Payments, Monetization.
- Experience initiating and driving large technical projects involving collaboration with multiple teams across an organization.
- 10+ years of hands-on technical experience as an engineer, including experience in large-scale organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and mentor teams and individuals across multiple departments or larger organizational structures.
- Proactive and proficient in stakeholder communication in English, ensuring clear and effective interactions.
- Experience with a wide range of observability practices (SLOs, Dashboards, Alerts) for business critical systems.
- Experience with Domain Driven Design (DDD) is a plus.
