Academics are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a secondary SEMH School in Basingstoke to start in September. This is a full-time, temp to perm contract, so if you are ultimately looking for a permanent contract, please apply!
As a Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting pupils aged 11 - 16 years with complex social, emotional and mental health needs. This is a very challenging yet rewarding role, where you will be required to support learners on a group and individual basis, working 1:1.
Due to the nature of the setting, this is suitable for someone with experience of working with children with challenging behaviours, who is able to develop good relationships and support positive engagement in tasks and activities.
To be considered for the role of Teaching Assistant, you must:
- Be confident, resilient, empathetic and able to think on your feet!
- Have recent experience in supporting children with special needs, or be willing to learn.
- Be available full-time, term-time.
- Ideally be based in Basingstoke or be willing to travel to Basingstoke to work.
The school expects every member of the team to work collaboratively and flexibly, but you will have specific accountabilities, such as:
- Working with individuals and groups of students, ensuring students are kept on task and complete activities set by the teacher.
- Managing and supporting student behaviours in conjunction with the teacher.
- Delivering interventions.
- Providing individual student and group mentoring sessions as required.
