Today, Apollo continues to grow with a team of over 280 professionals dedicated to fulfilling the company's mission of enabling a resilient and sustainable world.
We're seeking a forward-thinking and commercially astute Contingency Underwriter to join our growing Specialty team. This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to underwrite high-profile and non-standard risks across entertainment, sports, and media - while helping elevate Apollo's presence in the Lloyd's market and beyond. You'll be based at the box in Lloyd's, trading transactional business face-to-face, with opportunities to travel to continue to strengthen broker and client relationships.
What You'll Do:
- Underwrite and price a diverse portfolio of contingency risks, including event cancellation, non-appearance, prize indemnity, and media production.
- Craft bespoke insurance solutions in collaboration with brokers and clients.
- Leverage data insights and expert judgment to assess complex exposures.
- Monitor market trends and emerging risks to shape underwriting strategy.
- Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and legal teams to ensure robust risk management and policy wording.
- Represent Apollo at industry events and build strong, lasting relationships across the market.
What We Are Looking For:
- Proven experience in contingency underwriting or a related specialty line within Lloyd's or the wider insurance market.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to assess and price bespoke, complex risks.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with confidence in client-facing roles.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Familiarity with Lloyd's market operations and regulatory frameworks.
- A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with a passion for innovation.
- Professional qualifications such as ACII (or working towards) are advantageous.
- A creative thinker who can navigate ambiguity and tailor solutions to unique client needs.
What You Will Get In Return:
Our compensation package is designed to attract top talent. In addition to a fair and attractive salary, this role offers a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive range of benefits, including 31 days of annual leave, a non-contributory pension and private medical insurance.
Our Commitment To Inclusion:

To meet the needs of a demanding global insurance market, we need a diverse workforce that truly understands the international communities we serve. That is why we're focused on developing diverse talent at every level; inclusion and diversity means more to us than just chasing a target and we are committed to supporting and celebrating difference.
Hybrid & Flexible Working:
At Apollo, hybrid and flexible working is fully embraced and we do not see the benefit of presenteeism. We understand that no two colleagues are alike, and as such we support the ability to remain agile and achieve a home and work balance to best suit business and personal commitments.
