Instructional position delivering instruction as part of the Foundation Degree level course, (BTEC Higher national equivalent) to military air engineering students in Avionic Systems Principles.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week; however, the Ministry of Defence offers a range of flexibilities to enable a better work life balance for employees. Alternative Working Patterns, in accordance with policy, can be considered where it can be accommodated by the business, but there may be occasions when a presence on site during standard working hours may be required. All working patterns and flexibilities are subject to the agreement with the Line Manager.

Are you experienced in avionics and in particular Avionic Principles and systems? Could you use your extensive knowledge and skills to deliver training to the next generation of the Royal Navy's Aircraft Engineering Technicians and Officers, whilst encouraging them to be their very best? The Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival School (RNAESS) are looking for a Specialist Instructor Officer to deliver Avionic Principles and systems to include Digital Control Systems, Integrated Avionic Systems, Flight Control Systems and Fault Finding.

Your primary role will be teaching adult learners who are studying for their next promotion and as part of the current avionics systems phase of career courses achieving either a Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education or a Level 5 Foundation Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, delivered by the MOD, and accredited by the University of Portsmouth. These trainees will progress to be engineering supervisors on Royal Navy Air Squadrons, deployed around the globe.

Teaching experience is preferred; however, a professional Defence Trainer Course will be provided for a successful candidate if required, and further opportunities for formal civilian teaching qualifications are also available. Teaching will be conducted within the normal working week, which is 0800 – 1630 Monday - Thursday, 0800-1530 Friday. Training is programmed for 45 weeks of the year. You will be working in an encouraging supportive environment with a line manager mentor, as well as numerous other experienced trainers and training managers. The school offers an extensive support network for all trainees which provides all pastoral care.

A successful candidate will be responsible for delivery of training in the required subjects to classes of up to 16 students per class. Instructional loading will absorb approximately 60% of your time. When not instructing, the post holder will be required to maintain currency in subject matter, prepare teaching material, upkeep designated subject course documentation, invigilate & mark examinations and assessments, propose change requirements and set new examination questions as appropriate. Once experienced, mentor and develop new team members.

Qualifications: Candidates must have served a recognised aeronautical engineering apprenticeship or a relevant recognised alternative period of training and possess an appropriate National Qualification (L4 ONC/OND) AND have at least 5 years recent experience in that trade specialisation. Or candidates who have completed a UK Armed Forces Aircraft Engineering training and have attained Senior Non-Commissioned Officer level and have a proven track record of aircraft technical experience will be deemed as meeting the necessary requirements.
