CSA are currently sourcing candidates for our client based in Carmarthenshire.
PAY RATE:
- Basic Pay Rate: Β£11.18 per hour
- Overtime Rate: Β£16.77 per hour
CONTRACT TYPE: Full time temporary contract.
SHIFTS: 37 hrs per week
- Monday to Thursday β 6am β 2pm
- Friday β 6am β 1:30pm
REQUIREMENT: Own transport required to get on site as there is no public transport available.
Main purpose of the job: To work as part of an operational team within the refuse/recycling collection service responsible for collecting refuse and recycling from properties on designated rounds or in areas to meet the needs of the residents and businesses of Carmarthenshire.
Operational Duties/Supervision of Crew:
- Collect recycling or refuse from the kerbside or other agreed collection point and load into vehicle in accordance with operational plans, procedures and codes of practice including the lifting/manoeuvring/sorting and returning of a full range of refuse and recycling containers ensuring that refuse and recycling items are collected at all times and missed collections are avoided by the end of the scheduled day.
- Operate any fitted power mechanism including automated loading/compaction equipment in accordance with service procedures and vehicle requirements and to assist the driver in operational activities on the round and at tipping locations to reduce and control the potential risks to Health & Safety.
- Be responsible for supporting the driver to manoeuvre the vehicle safely around the streets and carry out reversing assistant, traffic control and signalling (banks person) duties in accordance with safe working procedures and utilising reversing aides to minimise the risk of personal injury to other members of the crew and to members of the public.
- Undertake a visual inspection of sacks and containers to ensure that prohibited/contaminated waste is not collected and that recyclable waste is deposited in the appropriate vehicle compartment to avoid cross contamination. Identify and report to the Refuse/Recycling Driver any non-compliance and where necessary apply approved notices to the bags or container.
- Ensure that any debris or spilt refuse from damaged sacks is cleared up immediately, and where heavy littering has occurred, report to the Refuse/Recycling Driver.
- Continually liaise with the Refuse/Recycling Driver in relation to the roundβs daily operational activities in order to report any problems (parked vehicles/communal points access/call backs/missed collections/spillages/litter problem areas/landfill etc) and use of initiative to deal with operational issues as they arise so that they may be speedily resolved.
- Assist the driver to comply with disposal site rules for unloading and weighing when tipping off at specified locations (transfer stations, landfill sites or recycling facilities).
- Use own initiative to solve any operational problems, including unique collection requirements, contamination or issues relevant to the performance and safety of the round ensure the service is delivered to the highest standard identifying, recording and reporting decision and activity to the environmental supervisor using prescribed procedure.
- To assist in direct engagement with the public to promote recycling messages and improve participation in the recycling schemes by providing guidance, support and advice in a knowledgeable and polite manner.
- When required support other crews in the delivery and completion of the waste and recycling collection rounds.
- Undertake all other duties commensurate with the duties of this post as directed by the environmental supervisor.
