About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to join our Campaigns and Regional Engagement team. You will assist in raising the profile of physiotherapy throughout London, the South-East Coast, the East Midlands, and the East of England, and support our work to influence key stakeholders. Through the development of effective communications, you will engage and inspire CSP members to promote the value of physiotherapy in their communities while also building opportunities to increase the profession’s influence with local decision makers. The role also involves substantial input into CSP campaigns and events.
Responsibilities:
- Support and build relationships with CSP regional networks and other CSP member groups working to provide advice and inform the development of plans.
- Plan, develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate communications projects (across the assigned region/s) to raise the profile and influence of physiotherapy amongst key target audiences.
- Support members to develop campaigns and communications which respond to relevant local issues and provide opportunities for members to engage with local health and social care decision makers and key opinion formers.
- Ensure that regional and local issues are fed into national activity (member and external communications).
- Provide support in the assigned regions for key CSP campaigns and projects.
- Develop relationships with relevant stakeholders, media outlets, and other local organisations within the assigned regions and countries.
- In conjunction with regional networks, update relevant web pages, produce content for CSP’s magazine, Frontline, and contribute to CSP regional and national social media content development.
- Support the recruitment of core team members and encourage activism and engagement at a local level by working with influential members, organisers, and Senior Negotiating Officers (SNOs), professional advisers, and other colleagues.
Experience:
- Experience of campaigning or communications, ideally at a regional and local level.
- Experience of membership organisations.
Professional/Technical and Occupational Requirements:
- Relevant professional accreditation/qualification (Chartered Institute of Public Relations).
Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Expertise in at least one, and preferably several, of these areas: Local/regional media relations, social media, video production, online communications, stakeholder engagement, event organisation, writing for publications.
- Ability to work effectively across directorate boundaries.
- Knowledge of health and social care.
- Works collaboratively with staff and members across the organisation to share information and involve others to improve outcomes for members.
- Ability to use data/intelligence from membership databases, insight, and knowledge to influence and inform decisions.
- Basic skill levels in Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, as well as practical experience of virtual networking platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams.
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity principles and the ability to work with them in practice.
- Takes responsibility for ensuring that data is accurate and up to date, whilst being aware of sensitive and confidential data.
- Awareness of the environment in which trade unions operate.
- Ability to undertake the travelling and unsocial hours required of the post, including some evening and weekend work, and travelling within the UK.

- Relevant degree or equivalent by experience.
