Job Summary:
Under the oversight of the Chief of Global Conflicts & Legal Ethics and the Director of Conflicts & Legal Ethics, a Senior Conflicts Attorney supports the firm\’s risk management functions related to conflicts of interest and client intake in a large, international setting.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary contact for conflict inquiries from partners across the firm, managing conflict resolution for transactions and client onboarding.
- Manage conflict research processes to ensure swift and accurate conflict identification and resolution.
- Guide and monitor processes related to new clients and matters, including screening and waivers.
- Advise attorneys on conflicts rules and assist with compliance, including drafting and reviewing engagement and conflict waiver letters.
- Supervise the development and communication of ethics screens.
- Communicate firm policies on conflicts and client intake, recommending updates as needed.
- Provide guidance to attorneys and staff on conflict of interest rules and procedures.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on conflicts rules, maintaining current knowledge across jurisdictions.
- Review matters for potential legal or ethical issues and escalate appropriately.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Skills and Experience:
- At least 5 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Knowledge of large firm practice areas such as financial services, banking, capital markets, and private equity.
- Ability to identify and resolve conflicts of interest in various legal transactions.
- Proficiency in internet research and corporate databases like CapitalIQ.
- Skill in researching corporate ownership and complex relationships.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment, discretion, and initiative.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with professional diplomacy.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills to produce accurate work in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to learn and operate conflict checking software and other internal systems.
