Isabel Hospice is a local charity that cares for hundreds of people across eastern Hertfordshire each year. All our care is free and can be provided in your home, at our community hubs, or our In-Patient Unit. Most of the people we care for have cancer, but we also care for those with other life-limiting conditions. Visit this link to join our team.

Summary

Our Donation Centre is the hub of our retail operations. This is a people-facing role involving meeting and greeting donors and visitors.

Detailed description

Our Donation Centre handles thousands of donated items, which are sorted for sale in our shops and online. We ask volunteers to commit to at least one regular half-day session per week:

• AM: 9:30am to 1:00pm
• PM: 1:00pm to 4:30pm

Available sessions include:

• Thursday: AM

What you’ll be doing:

• Greeting visitors upon arrival
• Assisting donors with donations, including lifting, carrying, and moving items to the sorting area
• Checking gift aid donors on a tablet
• Labelling donations with gift aid details
• Signing up new gift aid donors and explaining benefits
• Processing payments for sold items
• Keeping the premises clean and tidy
• Promoting understanding of Isabel Hospice\’s work
• Following health and safety policies

Your skills and abilities:

• Enjoy working in a team and with the public

• Ability to lift and move items safely
• Security conscious

Volunteer eligibility:

We ask volunteers to:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Live within easy commute of the area
• Volunteer for at least 6 months, 3 hours per week

All volunteers are assessed individually. We value diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.

All appointments are at the discretion of management and include a one-month trial period.
