About the Repairs and Investment Service: The Repairs and Investment service, within the Housing and Safer Communities Directorate, plays a vital role in delivering responsive repairs, capital works, and safety and compliance services to over 25,000 Council tenants and leaseholders. With around 80,000 repairs carried out annually, and a capital programme of approximately £30m this year, we work with a range of contractors to ensure quality service. While the majority of our repairs are handled by our dedicated in-house team, we also collaborate with external specialists for more complex services.
The Role: As one of London’s largest social landlords, the safety of our tenants and staff is our top priority. To strengthen this commitment, we’ve created a new Compliance team to provide clear focus and ownership for our safety initiatives. We are seeking a qualified and experienced Contract Manager with expertise in compliance and contract management. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping and driving the delivery of contract management processes, with a deep understanding of procurement, contracts, and compliance in the context of homes and buildings.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Management Leadership: As the Competent Person for compliance, you’ll lead the delivery of efficient and effective contract management, ensuring that processes align with safety and compliance requirements.
- Procurement & Relationship Development: You’ll manage relationships with contractors and suppliers, ensuring contracts are delivered in line with the borough’s compliance standards.
- Governance & Compliance: Deputizing for the Head of Landlord Risk and Compliance, you’ll provide leadership and ensure strong governance structures are in place to meet compliance objectives.
- Innovation & Improvement: You will drive innovation within the contract management process and continually seek ways to improve service delivery and safety standards.
- Leadership & Communication: You will demonstrate strong leadership skills, managing teams and presenting to a wide range of stakeholders, including elected members, residents, and colleagues.
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive experience in contract management, particularly within compliance, safety, or housing services.
- A deep understanding of procurement and how it integrates with compliance and contract management.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire teams, manage budgets, and ensure effective governance.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with residents, key elected members, and stakeholders to build a positive and solutions-focused culture.
- A structured approach to managing processes, with a clear focus on ensuring safety and compliance across all areas.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience in housing or property management, specifically within the social housing sector.
- A comprehensive understanding of the regulatory and compliance frameworks in housing, including governance and risk management.
