Position Summary: Performs general nursing care to patients in a manner that considers safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN).
Responsibilities
- Documents observations on assigned patients in a legible, accurate, and appropriate format following hospital and unit procedures.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and other members of the healthcare team.
- Assists with nursing education groups.
- Completes assignments of AM/PM care, vital signs, phlebotomy, total milieu supervision of patient care; assists members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines; assists with admissions and discharges as assigned.
- Demonstrates competency in unit-specific tasks and skills as defined by the unit-specific competency list.
- Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
- May have limited access to areas storing medications.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
- Participating in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned.
- Demonstrating awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Practicing efficient use of supplies.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized unit.
- Receiving and processing incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests.
- Transporting and delivering items and equipment throughout the facility.
- Providing age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development over the lifespan, and assessing patient data to meet their specific needs as per policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Licensure/Certification: Maintains current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Must obtain and maintain current Handle with Care (HWC) Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Experience: 180 days of experience as a Mental Health Technician, Psychology Technician, Psychiatric Technician, Behavioral Health Technician, Registered Behavioral Health Technician, Behavioral Health Specialist, Direct Support Personnel, Group Home Assistant/Paraprofessional, Correctional Officer, EMT, Paramedic, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Home Health Aide, Patient Care Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Crisis Intervention Specialist.
