Our Hoare Lea office has been established in Cambridge since 2011, working on significant projects with the University of Cambridge. We enjoy a unique position in the community as the only consultant in the city able to undertake a wide range of projects, from smaller historically important ones to large and complex science and research facilities.
We are now looking to reinforce our local senior leadership team with someone who wants to be part of the next exciting phase of our office. We are looking for a driven L9 Associate Director or L10 Director to join the senior team and help continue the growth and success of the office.

What we are looking for: We are looking for someone who can inspire, with strong direction and communication skills to help drive the office forward and contribute to strategy. As an Associate Director or Director, you will be responsible for helping run the office, leading by example, and delivering excellence in project leadership. You will support staff in delivering a consistent high-quality service for clients, ensuring repeat and new business opportunities are developed.
The role: The role has three strands: project leadership, team leadership, and work winning. As a Director, you will be responsible for helping win, support, and deliver designs for a range of project types and sizes. You will work within a team of engineers and support staff delivering a consistent high-quality service for clients.
What you’ll be doing:
- Client-facing role, attending project meetings and disseminating the brief within the project team.
- Lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.
- Provide a lead role in an integrated project design team with other construction professionals.
- Take responsibility for solid technical delivery in your work.
- Engage with junior support staff and offer advice and guidance.
- Monitor fee expenditure, resource, and work delivered.
- Look for new ways of working and take time out for innovation and research.
- Create and maintain a high reputation within the industry, ensuring adherence to QM and risk control procedures.
About you: You should have a relevant degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification and ideally be working towards chartered status. You should have excellent technical knowledge in your primary discipline and a thorough understanding of Building Services Engineering.
Minimum Requirements:
- Suitably qualified Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineers degree or equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards submission to either CIBSE or IMechE.
- Previous consultancy or contracting experience in M&E Design & Specification, Surveying & Reporting, and Project Management.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment with excellent communication skills.
