As a Data Architect, Data Products at SBS, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining our overall data architecture, with a strong focus on delivering and operating data products. This includes developing foundational elements that enable scalable, reliable, and well-governed data products. You will ensure data ownership and accountability across domains and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into robust data-driven solutions. You will ensure that our data is well-organised, secure, and easily accessible while overseeing the implementation of data mesh principles.

Your role will involve managing data consistency across various domains and integrating data from multiple domains. You will optimise data performance and stay abreast of emerging technologies to provide strategic recommendations.

What will the role involve?

  • Design and Maintain Data Architecture: Develop and oversee the overall data architecture to support business objectives and ensure data consistency across domains.
  • Implement Data Mesh Principles: Lead the implementation of data mesh principles to manage data as a product, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and discoverable data across various domains.
  • Data Security and Accessibility: Ensure data security, governance, and accessibility, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Data Integration: Oversee data integration processes, ensuring seamless data flow across multiple sources, including databases, files, and event streams.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of data architecture with business needs.
  • Technology Leadership: Stay updated with emerging data technologies and provide strategic recommendations for adopting new tools and methodologies.
  • Performance Optimisation: Monitor and optimise data systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Data Modelling and Lakehouse Design: Strong data modelling, design, and integration expertise.
  • Data Mesh Architectures: In-depth understanding of data mesh architectures.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in dbt, SQL, Python/Java, Apache Spark, Trino, Apache Airflow, and Astro.
  • Cloud Technologies: Awareness and experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
