Windows Systems & Operations Engineer

About Us Generic Network Systems (GNS) is a boutique managed services and hosting company, primarily serving investment firms. We manage systems globally from our offices in NYC, San Francisco, Portland, and London, with colocation sites across North America, Europe, and Asia. Responsibilities We are seeking a Windows Systems & Operations Engineer to support deployment and management of Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and client workstations. The role involves working a shift from 8AM to 4PM within a small, highly technical team, delivering high-quality support to clients, monitoring servers, services, and addressing client issues and requests. Provide daily support for systems, applications, and workstations, including on-site visits to London-based clients when necessary. Manage tasks such as backups, OS and application patching, document and report status, escalate urgent issues, and collaborate with team members for resolution. Build, upgrade, and maintain systems across multiple platforms. Troubleshoot, resolve, and document solutions related to systems, applications, and disaster recovery/backup jobs. Monitor and address issues in our file processing operations after comprehensive training. Requirements 1-3 years supporting Windows-based servers, including experience with Microsoft SQL Manager. Solid understanding of VMware, vCenter, and Linux. Experience troubleshooting VMware VMs, Windows AD, Azure, AWS, SQL Services, DNS, IIS, and IP networking. Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn. Responsible, proactive, with excellent interpersonal skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Bonus Points Familiarity with Proxmox, Microsoft Office 365 management, Citrix XenApp, and Zerto Virtual Replication. Experience with scripting, preferably Windows PowerShell.
