Specialist Devices have responsibility for macOS and the physical and virtual environments/solutions for our 3,000 Engineering users, and 8,500 customer computers. We also have a remit to look at emerging alternative device solutions for particular use cases, providing the team with a varied and interesting workload, often at the forefront of new technology. We are a multidisciplinary team, working closely together to identify and assess options, make recommendations regarding solutions, then design and implement solutions based on our users’ requirements. You will also be part of the product leadership team. Our end-to-end product ownership means we value our users and continually assess the service, seeking improvements to enhance their experience. You will be a skilled practitioner and role model in Infrastructure solutions, responsible for ensuring best practices are followed across the department and guiding teams on delivering quality Infrastructure products. Please note this role requires passing Security Check clearance.

Following the promotion of the previous post-holder, Specialist Devices now have a position for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to assist in designing Infrastructure services in line with Architecture and Engineering principles. With a focus on operational stability, robustness, resilience, availability, and quality, you will be accountable for infrastructure solutions. Our responsibilities include:

  • The Engineering Platform supporting circa 3,000 users developing and testing solutions for DWP.
  • Creative Devices enabling media and video experts to design campaigns.
  • Providing data insights into the Department’s digital experience.
  • Overseeing the computers used by citizens in Jobcentres nationwide and exploring options for these devices as they reach the end of their economic life.

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will be involved in replacing approximately 8,500 devices across 800 sites nationwide, offering a unique opportunity to directly improve the digital experience for citizens. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will provide technical leadership for a multidisciplinary team in our key area of macOS and Jamf, contributing to ongoing improvements and emerging technologies.
