Join our community. We are looking for an Assistant Secretary to join us and be a part of the UK Corporate Governance Office, where you will provide high quality governance advice and support to Santander UK boards and committees.
As a key member of the team, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance and governance best practice throughout the Santander UK group. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining high standards, systems and procedures which will be constantly reviewed and improved upon.
The difference you’ll make:
- Advising on corporate and internal governance, including the Listing rules, DTRs, MAR and UK Corporate Governance Code
- Running of one Board level committee and subsidiary boards (including board committees) or management committee, including all preparation, taking minutes of meetings and distributing actions
- Taking responsibility for your own portfolio of subsidiary legal entities
- Implementing and overseeing compliance with the Subsidiary Governance Framework
- Contributing to the annual report and financial statements programme
- Providing specialist advice on statutory compliance and governance best practice, internal governance requirements and new business and legislative developments/projects
What you’ll bring:
These are the essential requirements you need to be successful in this role:
- Associate membership of the Chartered Governance Institute or equivalent
- Confident and articulate, capable of interacting effectively with senior executives and board members
- Extensive minute writing skills and good working knowledge of key sections of Companies Act 2006
- Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills, with meticulous attention to detail and ability to work autonomously and take own initiative
It would also be nice for you to have:
- Experience of working in a regulated environment, ideally financial services
- Ability to manage, mentor and develop team members
What else you need to know:
This permanent role is based in Unity Place – Milton Keynes however on occasion there may also be a requirement to work from our London Triton Square office.
We want our people to thrive at work and home and also be able to deliver the best outcomes for our customers and to help each other develop. To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).

- Eligible for a discretionary performance-related annual bonus.
