As the largest employer in North Yorkshire, we aim to hire Technology graduates to join our team of approximately 250 staff. We enable the organization and its partners to achieve operational outcomes, fostering innovation and efficiency to continually improve ICT services within the council and externally to businesses, communities, volunteers, and both public and private sector customers.

Following the transformation of NYC from eight separate local government organizations into a single unitary authority in 2023, Technology Services plays a crucial role in consolidating and transforming networks, systems, and infrastructure to provide optimal technology solutions. This is an exciting time to join us as we continue our transformation journey and adopt new emerging technologies.

You will need to:

  • Utilize your Technology knowledge gained from your studies
  • Maintain a customer-centric focus and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence customers, stakeholders, and other parties
  • Pay attention to detail and work accurately
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and have a problem-solving mindset to find suitable solutions using qualitative and quantitative data sources, including analysis, forecasting, market trends, and insights

Our established 2-year graduate Technology programme offers a wealth of knowledge and experience, providing a solid platform for you to learn and develop your skills. You will receive support from a line manager and a buddy, along with various training and development opportunities through the overall Corporate Graduate Programme.

The scope of the graduate role is diverse, given the busy nature of Technology, and you will be responsible for managing your workload effectively. During the programme, you will gain experience working within a single Technology Service team or across two teams, assisting in shaping, defining, and delivering projects:

  • Technology Systems Applications and Development: Focuses on consolidating, improving, and developing systems and applications to maximize value and support service transformation. Graduates will support service development and ensure the effective operation of key IT systems, maintaining high standards of service.
  • Architecture and Infrastructure: Involves designing, implementing, and maintaining NYC’s technology infrastructure to support organizational transformation. Graduates will undertake business analysis, research, and solution architecture activities, working within policies, standards, and enterprise architecture principles to ensure solutions are fit for purpose, timely, and within budget.
  • Technology Support Services: Provides first and second-line support to employees, either remotely or in person. Graduates must be highly customer-centric, capable of prioritizing requests, solving problems efficiently, and working effectively as part of a team.

Applicants must specify their preferred Technology team in the Supporting Evidence section of the application form. Graduates will also be part of a virtual Emerging Technology team, engaging in R&D and AI projects to leverage AI and emerging technologies for innovation and efficiency. This includes working on prototypes and providing strategic advice for AI initiatives.

  • Degree-level education in an ICT technical qualification or an equivalent qualification (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Engineering) with relevant IT experience or coursework
  • Right to work in the UK and ability to complete the 2-year programme
