Salary: £34,640 plus overtime and shift allowance
Who we are: The Operations division is involved in the repair and refit of both Royal Naval and Commercial vessels. The work is completed in various workshops throughout the dockyard. In this role, you will gain an understanding of plate work and demonstrate various techniques used in the ship repair industry (Light plate skillset).
Work Approach: Our evolving working approach offers flexibility with working hours, depending on your role and location. This may include accruing hours and flexible start and finish times to help balance work, on-site presence, and personal life.
What you’ll be doing:
- Understand and follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Possess basic hand skills, such as burning and chamfering various gauges and types of plates and extrusions.
- Operate Guillotines, rolling machines, drilling machines, folding machines, including CNC operations.
- Engage in tack welding (training/qualification can be provided).
- Accurately mark off using measuring tools like straight edges, spirit levels, set squares, chalk/string lines, plumb bobs, etc.
- Mark out sheet plates/extrusions accurately.
- Use grinders and consumables correctly while adhering to HAVS regulations.
- Utilize strong-backs and fairing aids to prevent distortion.
- Bend and form various gauges and types of plates.
- Understand QC inspection or process experience.
- Be prepared to work/travel outside of the main location as needed.
Your skills and experiences:
- Good knowledge of hand tools and experience in sheet metal fabrication with materials like aluminium, stainless steel, and steel.
- Ability to interpret and work from drawings and guidance.
