Salary: approximately Β£55,000 – Β£57,000 plus London Weighting Allowance of Β£5,319 – Total approximately Β£60,319 – Β£62,319

Job Purpose

The BBC SSR Group supports TV, radio, and online program production by ensuring safety and risk management, safeguarding staff, premises, and assets, and enabling the creation of high-quality content.

The High Risk and News Safety team, based in London Broadcasting House, provides specialist safety, security, and risk advice across various departments and locations worldwide. This fixed-term role involves delivering second-line support, occasional overseas deployment, and working in a hybrid environment.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Your main focus is to protect staff and assets in hostile environments from threats such as terrorism, war, crime, and disasters. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert support and advice for BBC high-risk activities.
  • Conducting threat analyses, risk assessments, and logistical planning.
  • Offering production safety advice.
  • Supporting crisis management and deputising when necessary.
  • Developing security policies and guidelines.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support deployments in hostile environments with threat assessment, safety equipment, and logistics.
  • Assist in crisis management, threat warning, and safety procedures.
  • Travel overseas as needed, including conducting security inspections and assessments.
  • Lead or assist investigations of incidents, liaising with authorities.
  • Participate in training courses and procure safety/security equipment.
  • Build relationships with external agencies and represent the BBC externally.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have recent operational experience in security or risk management in hostile environments, practical safety advice skills, and the ability to work under pressure and communicate effectively. Relevant qualifications such as CPP, PSP, or CSyP are desirable but not essential. Availability to start quickly is preferred.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Military, government, or security background with overseas experience.
  • Operational experience in warfighting, counter-insurgency, or close protection.
  • Physical fitness and flexibility to deploy at short notice.
  • NEBOSH certification or willingness to obtain it during onboarding.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Driving license, vehicle maintenance knowledge, arms training, logistics experience, satellite communications, report writing, and relevant diplomas or memberships.
  • Experience working with media teams and current first aid certification.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, ability to work under pressure, and integrity.
