WHAT’S THE MISSION FOR THIS ROLE?
As a key member of the Rapid Prototyping team, you will be responsible for the pattern cutting & manufacturing of garment samples and product prototypes working with the Design, Development and Innovation teams in Pentland Brands. Reporting into the RPC and Product Concept Manager, you will provide an invaluable service to help our creative teams originate and conceptualise their ideas and designs into items to test fit, form and function.
WHAT DOES THIS ROLE DO?
As our Product Concept Technologist and Pattern Cutter you will be responsible for:
- Creating patterns, prototypes, samples, and construction guidelines on time and in full to tight deadlines in a busy atelier.
- Servicing brands as a technical centre of excellence.
- Constantly reviewing fit.
- Partner with NPI, Design and PD teams, against agreed timelines and concepts.
- Maintain prototype/sample/pattern block library.
- Supporting the RPC & Product Concept Team Lead in new product development and new product innovation, to enable the delivery of key products and technology platforms.
- Have a thorough understanding of industry best standard practice.
- Seeking new technological solutions such as digital pattern cutting, 3D printing and other innovative construction methods.
- Advise and consult on solving technical challenges with regards to construction, performance, fit and function.
- Ensure prototypes/samples meet Pentland quality and performance.
- Support external production partners and suppliers, identify new opportunities to create competitive advantage.
- Partner with our NPI leads to work with consumer groups, interpreting feedback and iterating concepts based on their recommendations and input.
- Ensure Insight and customer needs are at the centre of development decision making and Product engineering.
- Monitor the Sample Room material and component inventory and maintain sampling equipment.
WHAT DO I BRING TO THE ROLE?
To stand out in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
- Degree or equivalent in courses relevant to textile product design and development, or demonstrated industry experience.
- Experience and understanding of pattern cutting, construction methods and problem solving to a high standard within or for a global activewear brand or similar industry using Lectra Modaris.
- Experience in pattern cutting and fitting garments on both men and women.
- Experience in using a broad spectrum of industrial sewing machines and bonding equipment.
- Knowledge of the active/outdoor market and knowledge of technical fabric construction techniques such as waterproof goretex and bonded stretch fabric.
- Exceptional eye for detail and exceptional technical knowledge of product construction, including latest market developments and knowhow and experience in the delivery of accurate product samples.
- Experience in maintaining production machinery and prototyping facilities.
- Experience in application of computer programs to an appropriate level for the purpose of product development, data management, presentation, report writing and communication.
- Experience of cross functional team working and integration.
- Proven strong communication / listening skills with experience in tailoring style and content dependent on the audience as well as understanding cultural differences and requirements.
- Ability to work independently in an organised manner to prioritise and multitask whilst maintaining a strong attention to detail.
