We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Specialty Doctor in Adult Psychiatry on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful department. Our client provides mental health care to those people living in West Midlands who are experiencing mental health problems. We serve a culturally and socially-diverse population of 1.2 million spread over 172 square miles, and have an income of over £200 million, making our Trust one of the largest mental health Foundation Trusts in the country.

The Trust also has a number of other contracts with PCTS outside of Birmingham and Solihull for a range of services where our services are commissioned. The Trust also receives significant non-health activity income for training, education and research activities. Our Trust has over 4000 dedicated staff that are continually working to “Help People Get Better” and challenge the stigma associated with mental illness. Our Trust operates from over 140 sites in a variety of settings, from community-based mental health teams through to acute wards and day centres. While the overall rating for the Trust is “Requires improvement”, the Community Teams are rated “Good” by the CQC.

The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties, such as:

  • Provide assessments for patients with mental health difficulties referred by General practitioners from the designated catchment area or transferred from other services within the Trust (e.g., Home treatment, psychiatric liaison services in Accident and Emergency departments) and formulate care plans informed by best evidence-based practice.
  • Develop risk assessment and management plans in conjunction with the Multidisciplinary team, service user, carers, and other involved agencies.
  • Conduct Mental Health Act assessments where appropriate.
  • Proactively liaise with other mental health teams and primary care to ensure continuity of care and appropriate information sharing.
  • Contribute to the teaching of Medical Students and junior doctors attached to the teams and members of the MDT.
  • Carry an individual case-load of patients for which they will be accountable to the supervising Consultants.
  • Participate in Clinical Governance reporting processes, developing audits of practice and ensuring compliance with basic standards of care.
