Software Product Director

Avencia Consulting is partnered with a well-known Specialty Reinsurer based in the City, seeking to hire a Product Director on a permanent basis.

The role

You will lead the vision, strategy, and execution of the product development roadmap for a key data analytics software suite. This role requires strategic thinking, leadership, and hands-on execution to drive innovation, market success, and customer satisfaction. Frequent travel will be required.

Key accountabilities

1. Product Strategy & Vision: Develop a compelling product vision aligned with business goals and market opportunities, including involvement in bids and pitches to external parties globally.
2. Roadmap Development: Define and communicate the product roadmap, ensuring alignment with customer needs and technological advances.
3. Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with teams across the business to drive product initiatives from conception to launch.
4. Customer & Market Insights: Conduct research and gather feedback to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
5. Agile Product Development: Lead the product team in an agile environment, prioritizing features and ensuring timely releases.
6. Performance Measurement: Define KPIs and use data insights to improve product success.
7. Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of 10 across London, Dublin, Bermuda, fostering innovation and collaboration.
8. Drive Change: Manage change from ideation to implementation, building the team and processes needed.
9. Collaboration with Tech Teams: Work with internal and external tech teams to refine requirements and coordinate projects.
10. Continuous Improvement: Implement best practices and ensure effective documentation.
11. Project Management: Manage risks, issues, deadlines, and dependencies, providing status updates.
12. Leadership & Ownership: Promote ownership, accountability, and technical excellence within the team.
13. Resource & Efficiency Monitoring: Monitor team productivity and resource use.
14. Industry & Product Knowledge: Develop a deep understanding of our industry, products, and services.
15. Reporting & Stakeholder Management: Report on progress and ensure stakeholder satisfaction.
16. Long-term Focus: Prioritize effective, simple solutions with appropriate controls.
17. Project Estimation & Quality Control: Estimate tasks and ensure quality of third-party deliveries.
18. Customer Advocacy: Act as a voice-of-customer representative.
19. Budget & Effort Tracking: Track budgets, team costs, and efficiency metrics.
20. Team Culture & Leadership: Support a culture of innovation, accountability, and process simplification.

Skills & experience

1. Bachelor\’s degree or higher in a relevant field (Engineering, Physics, Data Science).
2. At least 10 years in a technical product manager or director role within a large organization.
3. Experience managing project budgets and reporting.
4. Experience working in regulated environments.
5. Ability to deliver objectives with urgency and high standards.
6. Proven ability to support innovation effectively.
7. Strong leadership and cultural alignment skills.
8. Deep understanding of software development, SaaS models, and data analytics trends.
9. Strategic thinker with proven product strategy execution skills.
10. Technical understanding of software architecture, APIs, and modern development practices.
11. Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
12. Customer-focused with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
13. Proficiency in Agile, Scrum, and Lean methodologies.
14. Interest and experience in AI applications related to data analysis and automation.
