St. Mark Catholic School in Southwest Ranches, Florida is looking for a full-time School Security Personnel for the 2024-25 school year. The School Security is responsible for working with the school principal for the safety and welfare of students during classroom and non-classroom activities. This includes measures to minimize the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; monitoring activities around the campus for the purpose of identifying potential threats; and communicate observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general wellbeing of students, school personnel and/or visitors. This individual will perform all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
Hours: 9:30am – 6pm.
Essential Functions include:
- Respond to emergency calls for assistance, including: fire alarms, security alarm, and calls to policy and emergency medical personnel.
- Work with the school principal to develop action plans for re-enforcing safety policies, interventions, and immediate responses to threats.
- Report to principal and document all suspicious activity and subsequent interventions and recommendations to ensure safety of students, staff and the public.
- Collaborate with other school and district personnel such as the assigned police officer, representatives of local agencies, community safety tasks forces and others to provide information and/or act regarding investigations, criminal activities, gang activities, vandalism, etc.
- Work with the school principal to develop a communication strategy, cascading communications across appropriate mediums to respective audiences, for both actionable situations and providing information.
- Communicate school safety policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of the potential consequences of violation.
- Inform personnel, students, parents and/or visitors of school policies and procedures and expectations for each group; for the purpose of providing necessary information in compliance with policies and guidelines.
- Intervene in potential conflicts for the purpose of minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties.
- Investigate unusual incidents (e.g. unauthorized visitors, threats against students, possible violations of school policy) for the purpose of assisting law enforcement personnel, developing information necessary to determine appropriate action, and/or provide documentation for future reference.
- Maintain files and records (e.g. schedules, investigations, guidelines, etc.) in a secure area for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information for future reference and/or audit for compliance with established policies.
- Monitor student events (e.g. dances, athletic events, and others designated by the principal) for the purpose of safeguarding its participants and school property.
- Monitor areas of informal assembly such as rest rooms, grounds, hallways, library, cafeteria, parking lots, Church, and others designated by principal.
- Prepare incident reports, security logs, memos, letters, and instructions for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
- Recommend policies, procedures and/or actions to school administration (e.g. supplies and equipment, schedules, practices, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction that ensures efficient provision of campus security.
- Refer observations and incidents (e.g. injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, inappropriate social behavior, and policy violations) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel for follow-up action.
- Respond to a variety of situations such as on-campus accidents, injuries, vandalism, fire alarms, etc.; for the purpose of taking and securing the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
- Monitor student drop-off, pickup and entry to and from the school during regular school hours.
- Demonstrate Christian conduct in this role, including modest style of dress, character, and positive interpersonal actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor\’s degree or equivalent training in comprehensive law enforcement program.
- Two to five years\’ experience in security, law enforcement a plus.
- Good oral and written English Spanish-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice, required.
- Spanish language skills a plus.
- Experience in a Roman Catholic environment preferred.
