As a specialist in Credit Assessment, you will work with a high degree of accuracy, expertise, and due regard to responsible lending requirements. You will be completing a full review of circa 100 applications per day, managing the volumes that are received by the New Business Department alongside your colleagues. Each review will culminate in a decision or recommendation that will need to be backed-up with a thorough rationale and evidence.

The working hours are 35 hours 9-5 or 10-6 Monday to Friday with 1 in 4 Saturdays. A day in lieu for the Saturday will be provided the following week.

Responsibilities:
  • Using a Scorecard grade-based system, in conjunction with credit reference and fraud data, assess applications for finance. Circa 100 cases per day, for balances more than 40K.
  • Use good attention to detail to ensure your decisions meet the lending criteria, and good judgment to recommend going outside those criteria when appropriate.
  • Review customer open banking data in order to ensure they can afford the proposed monthly commitment.
  • Field calls from Area Operations Managers and Retailers with respect to the credit assessment process and the decisions made.
  • Review potential Politically Exposed Persons and Sanctions to ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met around fraud and financial crime.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstratable experience of operating as a credit assessor (underwriter) in the motor finance industry or equivalent.
  • Experience carrying out customer and enhanced due diligence assessments, particularly on PEP and Sanctions customers.
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to succinctly capture the basis for a decision, including salient evidence.
  • Able to demonstrate confident decision making and ability to filter large amounts of information into the key drivers of any decision.
