Are you driven to tackle climate change through decarbonisation? If so, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to make a real difference in a role where you will be supported to do the right thing.

Newport City Council is looking for someone who can continue to deliver against our ambitious climate change programme with the vision of becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2030 and supporting the City to Net Zero Carbon by 2050. We need someone who is motivated to make a difference, can demonstrate the ability to integrate quickly, lead others and who has the determination to see projects through to completion.

The post holder will be part of a growing multi-skilled Climate Change team that is responsible for our Organisational Climate Change Plan and our Local Area Energy Plan for the city. Reporting into the Climate Change Project Officer the successful candidate will:

  • Manage the delivery of the Net Zero Newport Decarbonisation Programme, which supports local businesses with grant funding for the installation of low carbon infrastructure
  • Support local businesses and our supply chain to decarbonise by providing advice and helping with the production of decarbonisation plans
  • Support the decarbonisation of our procurement by advising other areas within the council on how they can embed decarbonisation in their procurement activity
  • Support the climate change team with the delivery of our wider agenda.
  • Work with colleagues and partner organisations to develop and deliver on projects that will produce the required results with the specified tolerances of time, cost, quality, scope and risk.

The role would suit an individual who is driven to save carbon and who has previously worked in an advisory or project support role. Applicants should be qualified to degree level or equivalent and have experience or knowledge of energy, climate or carbon reduction fields.
