The predicted salary is between 28800 - 48000 £ per year.
Responsibilities:
- Provide practical support to users of our computational platforms (HPC / HTC) via a ticketing system and in-person / via video, with guidance from the rest of the team (65%);
- Help the team deliver face-to-face training courses (15%);
- Assist with the maintenance of our on-site computational platforms (HPC / HTC) (20%).
Most of the role involves on-the-job learning, but there will be some opportunity to undertake self-learning. Funding has been secured to ensure that where the appointed individual performs well, there will be an opportunity to be considered for promotion to grade 6.
Minimum Requirements:
- Have a good knowledge of Linux, with experience of using the command line and system administration tasks such as user management, file permissions, and system troubleshooting.
- Know how to install applications in a Linux environment, with familiarity of doing so beyond package management systems an advantage.
- Have at least 1 year of experience in an IT helpdesk role.
- Enjoy working with people, displaying empathy for them and helping them with things that they may be finding challenging.
- Possess an aptitude to solve problems and think on their feet, but also not be afraid to ask for help.
- Demonstrate an ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
- Have good face-to-face and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
