About Us: Access Talent Group are recruiting for a local council looking for an Assistant Highways Engineer to join their growing Highways Maintenance team. This role supports engineers in the successful design and delivery of highway schemes from inception through to completion, covering projects from small junction improvements to multimillion-pound major projects.
The Role:
- Design: Prepare designs from inception through to detailed design and subsequent implementation in accordance with current national and local design standards and policies, considering health and safety, equalities, and sustainability.
- Project Management: Work to agreed timescales, monitor own work and that of junior staff, ensuring delivery to high standards of quality, on time and on budget.
- Financial Control: Assist in preparing estimates, monitoring and reviewing project costs to ensure completion within agreed budgets.
- Scheme Implementation: Prepare, tender, and assess contract documentation; assist with onsite construction works as a client representative; provide technical input, undertake surveying, and support senior staff on site as necessary.
- Communication: Represent the team at meetings, assist with consultations on scheme proposals, liaise with project clients, project teams, consultants, and the public; prepare reports as required.
- Training: Develop and adhere to a planned programme of training and professional development leading to a professional qualification (such as CEng or IEng) with senior management support; maintain personal technical expertise in new methods and technologies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Strong desire to learn and develop skills leading to further qualifications in Civil Engineering.
- Ability to produce high-quality work, including technical reports and designs.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design systems.
- Commitment to high standards of workmanship while adhering to programme and budget.
