The primary focus of this position is to play a crucial role in developing Paladino's energy, M&V and portfolio level data analysis service offerings. The successful candidate shall demonstrate the ability to guide small teams, take on project management and work well with diverse project types, MEP systems, groups and interests. Project work entails project strategy, work planning, execution of self-directed research, data intensive analytical activities, creating visualization dashboards and interactive tools, preparation of technical reports and presentations for client communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Selects and executes the most appropriate analytic modeling techniques and tools to lead a design team through an integrated design process for high aspirational educational, commercial office and manufacturing projects.
  • Guide design teams using a combination of quantitative and qualitative data to generate cutting edge energy and daylight solutions.
  • Factor in detailed Total Cost of Ownership studies into design decisions that account for first cost, operational costs, utility savings, and environmental KPIs.
  • Utilizes advanced modeling techniques to simulate energy performance of process heavy building types such as manufacturing facilities, cold storage and data centers.
  • Design, write and execute Measurement and Verification plans and guide design teams through the implementation process.
  • Work closely with building operations teams to draft project specific best management practices for energy efficiency.
  • Perform energy modeling and analysis using DOE II compliant software, preferable eQuest and IES software platforms on large, complex buildings with advanced energy features.
  • Work with large datasets derived from 400+ building portfolios at the building meter level and datasets derived from IoT BAS data to analyze and identify characteristic trends and summary recommendations.
  • Generate fee proposals, create response packages for RFPs focusing on building performance analysis, benchmarking analyses, and building performance reporting.
  • Perform technical analysis in support of project teams including: calculations that support proof of concept, energy and daylighting simulations, water balance modeling, materials recommendations and drawing and specification review.
  • Compilation of Building Performance Portfolio data suitable for submission to GRESB, CDP, and other annual corporate reporting activities.
  • Capable of using advanced Excel or other database modeling and visualization modules.
  • Develops and maintains office standards for modeling deliverables and mentors staff to follow them.
  • Perform internal quality control reviews of energy modeling deliverables authored by others.
  • Maintains the company's intellectual property regarding energy modeling process, compilation of best practices, the company's suite of proprietary Excel based tools.
  • Author technical reports, create presentations and other client-facing memoranda that present logical, clear, and evidence based arguments that drive project teams towards sustainable outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for code and LEED compliance.
  • Serve as expert resource for industry energy standards (ASHRAE, Title 24, NYSERDA, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of eQuest modeling software.
  • 3-5+ years of experience with energy modeling software, including EnergyPro, Energy+, Trace, IES or other industry standard software, and software manipulation to produce solutions within problem criteria.
  • Experience in modeling medium to large scale office buildings and mid-rise and high-rise multifamily residential (apartments/condos) for predictive annual energy use.
  • Knows the difference between investigative vs. compliance modeling, can assign modeling procedures, and set client expectations accordingly.
  • Team and project management experience.
  • Ability to attend and lead client meetings, make convincing arguments and presentations.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to draft technical reports, white papers, and other business communications with minimal supervision.
  • Experience developing and implementing sustainability concepts and strategies as demonstrated through actual project or program work, Net Zero Energy or Living Building Challenge project experience a plus.
  • Experience in whole building design, including technical evaluation as demonstrated by either: 2+ years professional experience with demonstrated progression in building design with an emphasis on advanced MEP systems, or an advanced degree in engineering, architecture or building science with a focus on green building, energy or building science, and with practical experience gained through internships, fellowships, or similar on-the-job training.
  • Background in HVAC mechanical design preferred.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, VLookups, and other advanced functionality.
  • A sense of humor and a knack for innovation and problem solving.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented working style.
