Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and ready for a hands-on role in one of the most critical reptile recovery programmes in the world? Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Programme Coordinator to lead efforts to save the critically endangered Saint Lucia racer (Erythrolamprus ornatus)—the world’s rarest known snake.
Based in Saint Lucia and reporting to Durrell’s Caribbean Programmes Manager and Curator of Herpetology, you will manage the daily care and welfare of the Saint Lucia racer and other captive species at our dedicated breeding facility. You will serve as the primary contact for Durrell’s racer programme in Saint Lucia, maintaining strong collaborations with local partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily husbandry and wellbeing of all captive Saint Lucia racers.
- Manage and develop Durrell’s racer breeding facility.
- Collaborate with local conservation organisations and government bodies.
- Support and engage in fieldwork activities as needed.
- Lead outreach and community engagement to promote biodiversity awareness.
What We’re Looking For
- A strong background in animal husbandry, ideally with reptiles.
- Practical experience in field conservation.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with community initiatives.
- A passion for conserving threatened species.
