Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, exceptional and dedicated communications professional to join our friendly and supportive team, to provide communications and engagement support for corporate projects across the organisation. You will be involved in delivering a wide range of exciting communications and engagement projects, with the aim of improving the experiences of our patients and colleagues.

The communications project manager will lead on the communications and engagement requirements for all relevant corporate portfolios of work. They will be required to use specialist knowledge to advise colleagues on communications and engagement best practice, ensuring that effective processes are planned and implemented for all projects.

The role will involve creating, implementing and evaluating communication and engagement plans and interventions, that are designed to provide high-quality and consistent communications and engagement outputs, encourage key enabling relationships with stakeholders, remove barriers and ultimately enhance the reputation of the organisation.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, be comfortable to work under pressure, have excellent judgement skills, be able to build strong and mutually beneficial relationships, have high levels of professional curiosity, be an effective decision maker, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Person specification

Qualifications

Educated to degree level.

Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through post graduate diploma, or equivalent experience, or training.

Experience

Communications and engagement experience, within a complex organisation.

Developing evidence based researched and deliverable communication and engagement strategies, plans and approaches.

Tailoring communications messages to key audiences in all sections of the community, including the media, hostile and antagonistic audiences.

Designing, organising and managing high profile events for staff and the public.

Ability to give expert advice at a range of organisational levels.

Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Experience of working in complex projects situations.

Experience in the effective use of a range of social media channels.

Additional Criteria

Use advanced analytical and judgement skills.

Work flexibly, prioritise workloads and resource them in response to changing demands and requirements.

(written, oral, presentation, facilitation), networking and negotiation skills, including strong writing, proof reading and editing abilities.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and delegate effectively.

Ability to find innovative ways of solving or pre-empting problems.

Confident, independent and effective decision maker, including the ability to make difficult decisions.

Ability to work under pressure, to agreed/demanding deadlines.

Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.

Managing and influencing strongly opposing views.

Ability to work independently, or as part of a team, recognising and acting on wider corporate responsibilities.

High level of IT literacy, including knowledge of MS Office programmes.

Understanding of equality and valuing diversity principles.

Understanding of confidentiality, information governance requirements.

Good awareness and knowledge of the political environment, locally and nationally.

Understanding the health policy and key themes of current health policy development.
