Optimas is currently searching for an experienced Toolmaker for the production and repair of cold forging tool sets. This position reports to the Tooling & Design Manager.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manufacture and fitting of production tooling to very tight tolerances.
  • Use and daily maintenance of all tool room equipment, including conventional lathes, milling machines, surface and cylindrical grinders, and hydraulic presses.
  • Possible use of CNC, VMC, EDMs, and bar-feed lathes, including setting, programming, and operating.
  • Self-certification of work in accordance with the Quality and Continual Improvement commitments.
  • Assist management and staff in identifying and implementing measures to improve productivity, quality, and working methods as part of the continual improvement and TQM programs.
  • Maintain high production rates with consistently high accuracy and quality in line with company requirements.
  • Work with minimal supervision within the overall team structure.
  • Understand work requirements and duties thoroughly, and communicate training needs to undertake duties effectively.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Accurate machining on lathes, surface, and cylindrical grinders, and milling machines.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings to BS 308 standards.
  • Preferred: OND or ONC in Engineering (Mechanical/Production/Manufacturing) or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Recognized apprenticeship in the relevant field.
  • Preferred: NVQ Level 2 or higher in a relevant discipline.
