We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician to join HMP Full Sutton near York. This role is based on-site, with limited public transport access, so candidates should be able to drive to and from work daily. The position requires working weekends on a 1 in 3 week rota, with an additional 15% of basic salary as allowance.
The Electrician plays a key role in ensuring that planned and reactive maintenance within the prison is carried out safely, compliantly, and efficiently.
Working hours: 39 hours per week, across 7 days, with a weekend shift pattern.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
- Diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components.
- Responding to breakdowns promptly, following Safe System of Work procedures.
- Fault finding and problem solving on electrical systems within the prison.
- Carrying out electrical installations according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations.
- Testing and inspecting electrical installations per current regulations.
- Monitoring and ordering critical spares for electrical services.
Candidate requirements:
- Relevant technical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 or above).
- Knowledge of BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition.
- Experience in electrical maintenance, distribution, installation, and testing.
- Understanding of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Ability to work at heights.
- If you hold 17th Edition, we offer sponsorship to upgrade to 18th Edition; terms apply.
Desirable skills include IT proficiency, and experience with fire alarm and CCTV systems, but training will be provided if needed.
