We are looking for an experienced paralegal to join our Trust and Court of Protection team in Sheffield.

About the role

The successful candidate will have responsibility for their own caseload comprising of trusts and court of protection/deputyship matters, dealing with clients, providing advice, considering our clients' best interests in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance including the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and deputy standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for managing own caseload of trusts, deputyships, and attorney matters
  • Providing advice and frequent contact with the client/their family and maintaining long-term relationships
  • Managing client's assets, income and expenditure including property, investments, and cash
  • Liaising and developing relationships with clients, their families, other professionals, colleagues within the firm and others, seeking appropriate guidance on complex issues from senior colleagues
  • Making payments to, for or on behalf of, clients, monitoring budgets, liaising with financial advisors
  • Preparing for, and following up from, meetings with clients, their families, and other professionals
  • Discussing investment recommendations with clients, Trustees, Deputies, and other professionals, as necessary

The ideal candidate:

  • Previous experience working as a paralegal in trusts or court of protection would be beneficial, however we will also consider applicants who have transferrable experience in PI or medical negligence (or similar) etc.
  • Experienced in use of different software applications e.g. Microsoft applications, PMS, DMS, Oyez forms etc.
  • Able to manage your own caseload.
  • Ability to work in a busy team.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
