Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Rescue Service and the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC) are seeking an exceptional individual to lead our Legal Services team.

As Head of Legal Services, you will play an important role in supporting the integrity, governance, and operations of vital emergency services. You will lead a skilled team delivering legal support across policing, fire and rescue, and the OPFCC contributing to the safety and wellbeing of communities across Northamptonshire. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the Legal Services team across policing, fire and rescue, and the OPFCC.
• Provide strategic legal advice to Chief Officers, Senior Leadership Teams, and the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.
• Oversee complex legal matters including operational policing, employment law, civil claims, governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure the organisation adheres to legal, ethical, and public sector standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including external legal providers and national policing and fire bodies.

What we are looking for:

• A qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial post-qualification experience.
• Proven leadership in legal services, ideally within policing, fire and rescue, local government, or other public sector bodies.
• Strong understanding of public law, governance, data protection, and operational policing/fire matters.
• A confident communicator with excellent analytical, negotiation and influencing skills.
• Committed to public service values and capable of working in a politically sensitive environment.
