Senior Legal Policy Manager

Morgan Hunt is currently collaborating with a Professional Regulator to recruit a Senior Legal Policy Manager . The ideal candidate will be a qualified legal policy expert capable of delivering strategic policy projects aligned with the organisation\’s corporate strategy.

As the senior legal policy advisor, you will spearhead policy initiatives, providing high-quality regulatory and public law advice. Your role involves leading complex projects, ensuring policies are compliant with legislation and innovative. You will also manage external legal counsel, deliver precise legal drafting, and support coaching and mentoring of legal advisers, fostering diversity and inclusion within the organisation.

This role is suitable for a qualified solicitor, barrister, or CILEX lawyer with significant experience in legal policy within regulatory or public law environments. A proven track record in leading solutions and resolving complex issues is essential.

Job Title: Senior Legal Policy Manager

Locations: Cardiff, Birmingham, London (40% office-based, 60% remote)

Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 (Birmingham and Cardiff), £77,000 – £88,000 (London)

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time (35 hours/week)

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead and develop major policy projects, analyzing, developing, and implementing high-profile, cross-cutting policies.
2. Collaborate with policy colleagues on strategic development, delivery, and implementation of policies aligned with the Corporate Strategy.
3. Manage regulatory policy projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards.
4. Engage with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships.
5. Provide high-quality legal advice on obligations, regulatory powers, and legislation construction.
6. Identify and respond to legal, reputational, and policy risks, escalating issues as appropriate.

Personal Specification

• Qualified solicitor, barrister, CILEX lawyer, or equivalent, with a current practising certificate.
• Proven experience in legal policy within regulatory or public law settings.
• Successful track record of leading solutions and resolving complex issues.
• Deep understanding of regulatory policy development and risk-based regulation.
• Decisive, strategic thinker capable of leading policy efforts on complex issues.
• Pragmatic, collaborative, and able to work effectively with legal and non-legal colleagues, including at senior levels.
