Job Type: Permanent full-time (hybrid working available)

We are seeking a Head of Finance to provide strategic leadership and management of our finance department. This pivotal role involves reporting directly to the National Director and offering expert advice to Trustees. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organisation, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and supporting strategic goals through effective financial leadership.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Produce timely, accurate, and informative financial reporting for senior management and Trustees.
  • Present financial reports to the board and comply with international reporting requirements.
  • Manage the finance team, including direct line management of the Finance Manager, Customer Service Manager, and Data Manager.
  • Develop and maintain systems for finance, databases, and website integration.
  • Ensure excellent levels of communication across departments and with external stakeholders such as auditors, solicitors, and bankers.
  • Serve as Company Secretary, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements for the organisation and its trading entity.
  • Plan and report on finances, including preparing annual budgets, quarterly reports, and statutory accounts for audit.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A formal accountancy qualification (CIMA, CIPFA, ACA, ACCA) or extensive experience in a similar management role.
  • Strong experience in financial planning, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver strategic and operational financial management.
  • Extensive experience in financial reporting and year-end account preparation.
  • Proficiency in Sage 200, The Raisers Edge, Excel, and Microsoft 365 is advantageous.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise a team, building good working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Previous experience in a charity or not-for-profit organisation is preferred.
  • Motivated by a commitment to the organisation's mission and an understanding of the Catholic Church.
