Job Summary
1710 Naval Air Squadron are looking for a Head of our Business Support Team. 1710 NAS is a unique unit that requires working with mixed Military and Civil Service teams consisting of technical specialists who use engineering and scientific reasoning to overcome UK MOD aircraft operational issues to recover, sustain and enhance aviation and wider military capability.
As head of the Business Support Team with functional responsibility across the squadron enabling functions, you will work closely with the Commanding Officer of 1710 NAS and Navy Command HQ. The role requires you to be a key enabler for the provision of engineering and scientific teams that provide operational support to ensure military aircraft availability.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
As the Head of Business Services at 1710 NAS you will lead, manage and direct the business section in maintaining and improving financial and resource planning and provisioning that enable the continued output and capability of various scientific and engineering sections.
You will also be the focal point with functional authority for 1710 NAS internal support and enabling functions. This will require management across a number of internal departments and a range of commercial and personnel issues.
Responsibilities
Liaison With Navy Command
- Communicating the unique, highly specialised training and equipment requirements of 1710 NAS in preparation for budget and resourcing cycles and constraints.
- Effective liaison on personnel management issues, changes and requirements.
Financial and Commercial Management
- Monitor, scrutinise and control in-year commitments against the budget and coordinate a monthly Forecast. Present Annual Budget Cycle for 1* reviews.
- Pursue all funding sources to enhance and maintain Squadron capabilities.
- Advise mentor and manage the delegated financial activities of specialist expert equipment and consumables, including support contracts.
- Lead, manage and monitor all 1710 NAS commercial activity to ensure equipment buys and through-life support is maintained iaw commercial and financial propriety.
- Engage with key stakeholders for the provision and management of Service Level Agreements between 1710 NAS and other organisations, ensuring propriety and completeness of capability and financial commitments.
Personnel Management
- Be the Civilian Management (CM) lead coordinator for the Squadron and advise and assist the CO, line managers and civilian staff on all CM issues.

In Addition To The Qualifications Essential Experience Includes:
- Relevant technical knowledge including an awareness of the aircraft regulatory environment, maintenance requirements and operational timescales.
- Working with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU aerospace legislation, regulations and policy.
- Line management experience and knowledge of training and competence requirements.
- Strong IT skills.
Highly Desirable Experience Includes:
- An enthusiastic, adaptable and inquisitive approach towards new challenges.
- Experience in agile ways of working.
- A UK driving license would be an advantage.
