For Companies Applications are invited for an industrial-led PhD studentship focused on developing new, sustainable, advanced concrete materials with carbon-negative footprints. This project adopts a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating organic and polymer chemistry, materials science, and advanced data analysis, including machine learning and AI techniques. We seek applicants from chemistry or materials chemistry backgrounds who are motivated and curious to innovate in building materials for the next decade.
Key features:
- PhD training building on your master’s degree (minimum of an upper second-class honours BSc in chemistry or materials chemistry) with relevant experience.
- Training located at the University of Nottingham’s Carbon Neutral Laboratory, in partnership with Concrete4Change (C4C) and Nottingham Trent University’s School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment.
- Unique PhD program: 2 days/week at C4C, 3 days/week at UoN/NTU, promoting rapid real-world application of research.
- Engagement with the UK community dedicated to achieving sustainable, ‘green’ concrete solutions.
- Focus on COâ‚‚ sequestration in concrete and producing high-value chemicals from COâ‚‚ as environmentally positive solutions with a return on investment. Gain vital skills for decarbonization efforts.
The studentship begins on 1st October 2024 for four years, with a stipend starting at £18,622 per year, increasing annually with inflation.
This position is only available for HOME students.
