The CT Technologist performs computed tomography (CT), general radiology, and fluoroscopy, including portable procedures, to produce cross-section images of patients' internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues, as ordered by physicians. This position requires rotating weekends and shifts, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed to provide 24/7 coverage.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Performs accurate CT procedures according to protocol, using optimal techniques and parameters to produce quality images for patients of all ages, including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Performs exam segmentation as appropriate for PACS archive.
- Ensures correct positioning of patient, prepares equipment, and monitors patient condition before, during, and after scanning.
- Makes modifications for positioning, slice thickness, and intravenous contrast administration as needed.
- Explains procedures, gathers pertinent information, reviews, and confirms with patient; reviews patient history and contrast history questionnaire form.
- Performs contrast injections as ordered by physician.
- Reports critical findings to appropriate personnel.
- Assists physicians with invasive procedures as necessary.
- Accurately enters data into HIS and RIS systems, including exam orders, visit details, charge information, procedural codes, and resource usage.
- Adheres to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiologist and ensures safety of patients, staff, and physicians by following all safety, infection control policies, and standards.
- Prepares forms, clinical information, and paperwork for physician interpretation.
- Assists with transportation arrangements for patients as needed.
- Supervises radiography students, aiding in their education on positioning, anatomy, pathology, radiographic principles, and patient care.
- Communicates with management regarding departmental productivity and performance improvement.
- Participates in continuing education to maintain current knowledge and skills.
- Prepares files for upcoming exams as needed.
Education
- Completion of an AMA-accredited Radiology Technology program required.
Experience
- One year of staff radiologic technologist experience preferred; one year of CT technologist experience or dedicated clinical rotation in a hospital setting preferred.
Certification & Licensure
- ARRT (R) registration required.
- ARRT (CT) registry certification required within 2 years of hire.
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) required.
- Virginia Radiologic Technologist license application must be submitted prior to hire, with licensure obtained within 90 days.
Qualifications
