At Baptist Health Princeton Hospital, the Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager (CANM) is responsible for leading shift operations within the clinical setting to ensure the delivery of high-quality care, an exceptional customer experience, and optimal patient flow. In conjunction with the Department Nursing Operations Manager and the Assistant Nursing Operations Manager (ANOM), the CANM provides guidance, fosters collaboration, and oversees the unit's clinical operations, including patient care assignments, customer experience, productivity, and quality outcomes in settings where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, illness, medical condition, or post-intervention assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in shared leadership structures.
  • Manage staffing assignments for oncoming and outgoing shifts based on patient acuity and staff skill sets to meet patient care needs.
  • Coordinate patient flow by working directly with Administrative Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Monitor the overall status of patients within the area of responsibility, with special attention to seriously ill patients.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in the delivery of patient care, ensuring compliance with physician orders and established policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Serve as a resource supporting frontline team members and providers as appropriate.
  • Support clinical collaboration focusing on expected patient length of stay.
  • Perform direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
  • Interface with patients and families to enhance customer experience by conducting Nurse Leader rounds and responding to complaints from patients, families, and physicians.
  • Participate in and/or lead safety huddles.
  • Embrace, communicate, and promote change and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Assess equipment needs to ensure staff have the necessary tools for patient care and can appropriately utilize equipment.
  • Support and sustain all leader-driven initiatives.
  • Assist with retention strategies for new team members to foster a positive work environment.
  • Maintain a regulatory-ready environment of care.
  • Ensure the appropriate allocation and adjustment of staff, including assignment of meal breaks and relief of team members as indicated.
  • Utilize effective fiscal management skills and decision-making regarding financial resources.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Support strategic initiatives by attending leadership huddles, assisting in new nursing/clinical initiatives, and fostering positive multidisciplinary collaborations.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor for the nursing team.
  • Communicate ideas clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to team members and groups.
  • Foster diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team.
  • Promote a safe working environment and support follow-up related to WPV occurrences.
  • Support the Professional Practice Model through performance.
  • Apply superior clinical and critical thinking skills for the assigned unit/department.
  • Act as a clinical expert and liaison, ensuring care aligns with Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Participate in collecting unit/department data via audits to identify opportunities for improvement and trends.
  • Promote high-quality nursing practice supported by evidence-based practice, research, organization, and national standards.

Qualifications

  • Education/Training: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Certification in area of expertise is preferred. May require additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, or TNCC depending on patient population.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse; acute care setting experience preferred.
