Description of Job:
Responsible to: Rising Generation Pastor
Responsible for: Assisting the Rising Generation Pastor with Youth Ministry
Temporary / Permanent: 3 year contract alongside Youth Ministry course
Overall responsibility of the job:
- Be part of St Peter’s Team, working alongside the Youth Outreach Worker and the PAIS team during youth work opportunities.
- Attend and help lead Youth Work Sessions at the St Peter’s Community and Youth Hub throughout the week, as well as fortnightly staff meetings with the wider church leadership team, and supervision meetings with their line manager.
- Assist in leading Sunday youth work that runs alongside our 4pm service with volunteer team members.
- Make connections and build relationships with all young people to help them on their discipleship journey.
- Assist the wider church team when they lead assemblies in local schools.
- Help lead our school holiday Sports Camps.
- Undertake administration, communication, networking, and publicity as required for the youth work.
- General Duties:
- Find and initiate innovative ways of leading young people on a discipleship journey.
- Attend regular staff team meetings, training days, and other staff team events.
- Attend weekly supervision meetings with the Youth Outreach Pastor.
- Bring a fun and inclusive attitude to all Youth Work activities.
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Rector, including prayer ministry, preaching, leading services, schools’ ministry, and work with young people and children.
- Visit local schools regularly and participate in acts of worship, liaising with the staff involved.
- Lead lunchtime and/or after school activities in schools with the PAIS team.
- Assist in providing chaplaincy within local schools and seek opportunities to grow mission.
- Safeguarding:
- Be involved in Youth Ministry in a way that follows National Safeguarding Guidelines.
- Respond effectively to any safeguarding concerns, following the safeguarding protocol.
- Build and maintain appropriate relationships with young people, avoiding exclusive or romantic relationships with those under 18 or vulnerable adults.
- Attend meetings involving prayer and worship.
- Be committed to SPWM’s Mission, Values, and Beliefs and actively work in accordance with Christian beliefs.
- Maintain personal spiritual development and grow in discipleship.
Training and Development:
This role is offered alongside the Youth Ministry degree provided by St Mellitus, and a successful application depends on receiving a place on that course. Funding will be provided for appropriate training and development.
This role carries a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) that the successful applicant is a committed Christian and part of the church family.
