Organisation Information: Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O'Rourke, two of Europe's most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion. Byelor are responsible for the Design & Build (D&B) including fit out and handover of the HBX Operations Service Centre (OSC) within Hinkley Point C. The building is a mixed use warehouse/office/laboratory/restaurant and office building which connects to both Unit 1 & 2 Turbine Halls via sky bridges.

We are looking for a Senior Commercial Manager who has experience in overseeing the financial management of complex, high-value projects from tendering and preconstruction to delivery. As a Senior Commercial Manager you will develop procurement strategies, manage risks, negotiate contracts, and ensure commercial success. You will also play a key role in project leadership, with responsibilities in risk management, procurement, financial reporting, and supply chain management. Typically, they are experienced industry professionals, skilled in negotiation and team leadership, with a deep understanding of the construction sector. Senior Commercial Managers often hold Chartered status (RICS, ICES, CIOB) and mentor other commercial staff.

Role / Responsibilities:

  • Form an integral part of the multidisciplinary sub-teams responsible for project delivery and client service.
  • Ensures staff have a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's GMCEs, BMS and other governance. Including Hinkley systems, processes and required governance.
  • Drafting of contractual correspondence to support Project Leadership.
  • Prepare the interim applications for payment and agreements.
  • Management, administration and settlement of subcontractors' accounts, including accountability for those delegated to your team.
  • Preparation and management of any claims.
  • The flexible management of staff to provide an effective commercial service for the business.
  • Providing junior members of staff inside and outside of function with support and guidance on their job responsibilities.
  • Negotiating with client's representatives, sub-contractors and other consultants to achieve project results whilst maintaining group relationships.
  • Input into contractual implications of intended courses of action.
  • Advise and manage commercial risks within the project or projects.
  • Input and support the preparation of monthly contract review reports, communicate key risk, opportunity and change with transparency, in a timely manner.
  • Support preparation and issue of weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information.
  • Identify change and implement the change control process and agreement in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that contract documents are properly executed prior to project commencement.
  • Adopt appropriate measures for management of risk.
  • Keep your manager fully advised of any issue/risk which has arisen or might arise, and which could affect the business/project.

Requirements:

  • Autonomously delivered a large project in the remit of £100mil+
  • Confident in demanding environments.
  • Expert Coins user.
  • Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS)
  • BSc(Hons) MRICS
  • NEC Option C experience

Essential:

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Member or Fellow of RICS, ICES or CIOB.

Additional Information:

All positions with Bylor are employed directly with either Laing O'Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public and include competitive salaries, private medical insurance, company pension schemes and annual holiday allowance. Some grades will also include a company car allowance. Unless stated otherwise all positions are based at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
