The Royal Surrey County Hospital Emergency Department sees approximately 75,000 patients every year. To support and enhance the care we provide to patients, we are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our busy team. This is an exciting time to join the Emergency Department as we have recently completed our £8 million rebuild to enhance the patient’s journey through the department. We have introduced dynamic patient pathways to improve patient flow and experience, resulting in a vast improvement of the department's performance.

Our team is motivated and committed to delivering the highest standards of evidence-based nursing care. We are passionate about Emergency Nursing and the service we provide to our local community. The candidate must be motivated, committed, flexible, approachable, and an experienced emergency nurse with a minimum of 2 years’ experience at Band 5 Staff Nurse. They need to be competent in IV administration, oral medications, cannulation, venepuncture, and have passed streaming assessments. They should also be able to demonstrate that they are a team player with good managerial and leadership skills.

You will have to demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of current issues in Emergency care within the NHS. You will be able to work an internal rotation shift pattern of days, nights, and weekends. You must possess excellent communication skills and be able to represent the department at a trust level.

The post holder will deliver patient care on a daily basis. They should be expert in all areas of nursing care from patient admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. As nurse in charge, they have overall responsibility for day-to-day management of their clinical area and for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures, maintaining associated records. They will manage, support, and lead a team of nurses in the delivery of evidence-based patient-centred care, which is of a high standard. They will assist the senior sister in the management of staff including appraisal, rotas, recruitment and selection, and the supervision of learners. They will provide advice and support to patients, relatives, and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice, and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources and liaise with the senior sister at all times. They will provide leadership on the Trust's values and behaviours.
