The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties:

  • Using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
  • Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets.
  • Painting structures and equipment.
  • Cleaning work area, tools and equipment.
  • Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
  • Inspecting vehicles and delivering vehicles for maintenance by others.
  • Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles.
  • Hanging doors and installing door locks.
  • Replacing broken window panes.
  • Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Participating in training as required by regulations and job requirements.
  • Performing all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Assisting with preparation of labor and material estimates.
  • Standing watch on various operating equipment monitoring and recording operating data.
  • Performing fire and security watch duties.

This job operates in an industrial environment. Use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hardhats, and gloves are required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Education & Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent is desired and three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid unrestricted driver license and must have and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must pass a thorough U.S. Government background check administered by the Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation.
