We have partnered with a leading hedge fund looking to hire a European Economist (1-3 years experience) to join their macro research team. This role is integral to the firm's research function, focusing on providing actionable macroeconomic insights for the portfolio managers (PMs) and helping drive trade idea generation. The successful candidate will specialize in analyzing European economies, ideally with experience covering France. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the firm's rigorous economic research function and collaborate with a globally respected team.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct in-depth economic analysis of Developed European economies (Core Euro Zone), with a primary focus on France.
- Monitor GDP trends, fiscal accounts, inflationary pressures, elections, and other macroeconomic indicators.
- Contribute to research outputs, internal publications, and structured economic analysis.
- Back up team members on their respective tasks to ensure continuity.
- Develop and refine economic models for country-specific and cross-regional analysis.
- Maintain and enhance datasets, ensuring consistency and usability across the team.
- Support the team's economic modeling tools, applying consistent frameworks across all countries.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality and timely research outputs.
- Stay updated on fiscal policy, regulatory changes, and other developments affecting European economies.
- Provide proactive research ideas and respond to ad-hoc PM queries on European economies.
- Deliver actionable insights, such as scenario analyses and the potential impacts of fiscal or monetary policy changes.
- 1-3 years of experience in an economist or macro research role at an investment bank, asset manager, central bank, or research institute.
- Specific experience covering France (Required).
- Master's degree in Economics or a related field (preferred).
- Strong background in macroeconomic analysis, fiscal policy, and modelling.
- Proficiency in economic modelling and programming tools such as Python; familiarity with Haver Analytics and Macrobond is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large datasets with precision and consistency.
- Fluency in French or another European language would be advantageous.
- Strong communication and analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex data.
- A team player with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
