An opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Craftsman Apprentice, software biased, to join the engineering team at Ketton Cement plant. This is an excellent and challenging opportunity to join a company that leads the way within the cement industry with 3 cement plants across the country. Not only will the chosen personnel work with skilled and experienced engineers, but they will also gain qualifications as a mechanical engineer. The period of the apprenticeship is 42-48 months. This will include college days and on-site working.
Qualifications and Development
- All apprentices are required to achieve a minimum of:
- (College) Level 2 diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
- (College) Level 3 diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
- (In-Company) Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
Internal and External training provided for the individuals to gain as much experience, knowledge, and qualifications as possible for their future careers.
Specific Specialist Skills Learnt:
- Read and interpret relevant data and documentation used to maintain components, equipment, and systems
- Carry out condition monitoring of plant and equipment
- Carry out planned maintenance activities on plant and equipment
- Carrying out complex fault diagnosis and repair activities on high technology engineered systems such as:
- Maintaining mechanical equipment
- Maintaining fluid & pneumatic power equipment
- Maintaining electrical & electronic equipment
- Maintaining process control equipment
Key Points
- Year 1 and 2 is a 36-hour week (7.30am โ 3.30pm Mon to Thurs, 7.30am โ 11:30am Friday)
- Year 3 and 4 is a 40-hour week (7.30am -3.30pm Mon to Fri)
- Salary โ increases each year based on Grade 1 of the national agreement salary (Year 1 = 35%, Year 2 = 45%, Year 3 = 60%, Year 4 = 85%).
- We are looking to commence these apprenticeships in September 2024.
Job Purpose
- Adhering to health and safety standards and following company rules and regulations
- Working alongside highly qualified and experienced engineers on our manufacturing plant
- Carrying out maintenance and repairs on cement plant equipment
- A detailed plan will be given for experience in other areas within a cement plant to gain full knowledge of the process
Accountabilities
The Electrical apprentice will work within the Electrical maintenance team and also work with our onsite software engineer. The team consists of 1 Electrical Engineer, 1 electrical supervisor, 4 electrical Craftsmen, and 1 software engineer.
